INTRODUCING A SERIES OF PRINTS FROM ELSIES PEAK
Inspired by an exploration of the fynbos that grows on Elsies Peak, part of the Table Mountain biosphere. Arabella Caccia’s Elsie’s Peak series draws on the colours of the fynbos, as seen from the angle of a plant looking out on the world.
They ask us to question life as perceived from an alternative perspective. They also explore the use of paint and how it too, in its intrinsic nature, follows the patterns dictated by universal laws. By examining the way it flows and responds as a liquid on paper, the way it too forms the same universal patterns that are found in all dimensions.
This work represents an extension of my exploration into the fractal nature of the universe, through reaching further into an exploration of the interplay of colour and light and how these elements are also subject to intrinsic, universal laws and an underlying structure described by the physics of the universe.
What comes across at first glance as abstract and accidental mark making, is supported on a scaffold of fractal forms that I am fine tuned into and which I see everywhere around me.
Think of the patterns lichen forms on rocks or the patterns of foam on water. Once one starts becoming aware of them, they are everywhere.
In a similar way to mathematics and measurement, underlying the way one starts to make sense of the natural world, I use fractal patterns as a language to tie all my work together. To have insight into my imaginary world, fractal patterns provide the key.
Nine individual prints from the Elsies Peak Print Series are available to order by request, each in limited edition of twelve.
